About Mohini Ekadashi (मोहीनी एकादशी का महात्म्य)

Mohini Ekadashi, observed on the Shukla Paksha of Vaishakha month, is one of the most spiritually potent days of the year. On this day, Lord Vishnu appeared in His enchanting Mohini form to protect the devas and distribute divine nectar.

This Ekadashi is not just a day of fasting—it is a powerful opportunity for self-purification, liberation, and divine service. Fasting, chanting the holy names, and performing daan (donation) are highly recommended on this day.

Mohini Ekadashi Vrat Katha

In ancient times, in the city of Bhadravati, there lived a wicked man named Dhrishtabuddhi, born in a pious family but fallen into sinful ways. He wasted his life in gambling, theft, drinking, and associating with immoral people. Even after being cast out by his father, he continued his sinful acts, becoming a burden on society.

One day, due to the accumulation of his bad karma, he found himself wandering in the forest — hungry, thirsty, and desperate. By divine arrangement, he reached the hermitage of Sage Kaundinya, a noble and compassionate rishi engaged in deep devotion to Lord Vishnu.

Seeing the miserable condition of Dhrishtabuddhi, the sage asked him about his past. Dhrishtabuddhi confessed everything, shedding tears of regret. Out of mercy, the sage advised him to observe the Mohini Ekadashi Vrat, which was approaching soon.

“If you truly want to be free from your sins, observe Mohini Ekadashi with devotion. Fast, chant the Lord’s holy names, and remember the Lord’s divine form.”

Following the sage’s instructions, Dhrishtabuddhi strictly observed the Mohini Ekadashi fast — refraining from all food and sinful thoughts, staying awake throughout the night chanting the holy names of Lord Hari.

As a result, all his sins were burnt to ashes. He became peaceful, detached, and spiritually awakened. After death, he attained Vaikuntha, the eternal abode of Lord Vishnu.
